The Jamaica Observer reported that Dr Dwight Walrond, deputy chief executive officer of the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA), said: “All the tests were negative. That confirms our suspicion that it wasn’t an outbreak of any particular disease, but it was a management issue.”

The samples were taken following media reports in June, that there could be a possible poultry disease outbreak in Region Six, Corentyne-Berbice, following the death of 800 birds at a poultry farm.

Since then, the news website reported that officials had been educating farmers in the affected area on farm management to prevent a repeat of the poultry deaths.
