Czech Poultry Production Growing as Consumers Favour Healthier Meat
CZECHOSLOVAKIA - Broiler meat has been gaining greater popularity among Czech consumers due to its favourable prices compared to other meats and its healthier profile, according to the latest report from the US Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service.

Total meat consumption in the Czech Republic has been gradually declining or stagnating. Increasing prices of meat and the steady shift to a healthier lifestyle are the main factors driving the overall decline in meat consumption.
Czech poultry meat production has been gradually increasing in last couple of years, growing by 1.3 per cent year-on-year in 2015, according to the FAS report. In the first half of 2016 the increasing trend continues, in the first quarter by 8.3 per cent year-on-year and in the second by 0.5 per cent year-on-year, as reported by the Czech Statistical Office.
Cheap imports of chilled meat from the neighbouring states remain the main challenge for Czech producers, FAS said.
