This conference - A Symposium on Chicken Biology - will highlight the biology of domestic chickens, in particular commercial broiler and layer breeds.
The top international researchers in this broad field will feature in the symposium to achieve two main aims:
- to disseminate research that is leading the way in our understanding of chicken biology and how this can be used to approach the significant challenges facing the domestic chicken industry.
- to consolidate this understanding into a statement founded on modern scientific evidence with the intent of shaping future government policy.

As part of its on-going commitment to improving animal welfare through increased scientific understanding of animals’ needs and how these can be met, UFAW is holding the fourth of a series of one-day conferences on ‘Recent advances in animal welfare science’.
This regular meeting, which will be held in York, aims to provide a forum at which the broad and growing international community of scientists, veterinary surgeons and others concerned with animal welfare can come together to share knowledge and practice, discuss advances and exchange views.

The Livestock Event, the UK’s leading livestock trade show, is launching new features and in response to visitor demand is increasing the livestock presence at the 2014 event.
Among the events included are the National Dairy Show; national beef shows (Aberdeen Angus, British Blue and British Charolais); Lleyn Sheep Society’s classes and a new dedicated feature for pig and poultry farmers.
There will be foot-trimming demonstrations, business and technical debates and careers forum, together with more than 500 trade stand exhibitors.
