Default Cheshire Poultry

I have had disastrous results from email egg purchases so recently bought 12 Blue Laced Wyandotte eggs from Cheshire Poultry, believing they would be reliable (sucked in by good web site). I paid £5 per egg, so £60 for 12 fertile eggs + postage, a total of £74.
I candled the eggs last night - 5 fertile, 7 infertile, 2 dead in shells. So 3 viable eggs from 12!
I emailed them to say that 7 from 12 infertile. The reply was that if I returned 6 infertile (paying my own postage) they would replace 6, many breeders wouldn't replace, very rude and aggressive! Just got in to receive an email requesting £4.99 for postage to supply the 6 replacement eggs! So £74 + £4.99 + cost to return 6 eggs ROFL. Bloody expensive eggs! Shame that there are so few chickens as a result! E Bay looking far more attractive. Give Cheshire Poultry a miss!!!!!!

Lynn - if you are still looking there is a wonderful breeder here in Norfolk. Maybe they would be prepared to send you eggs. Last time I went there they had blue laced wyandottes (also partridge, silver & gold) - bantams.
If you are interested I can pm you their telephone number.

Thats interesting as I very nearly ordered some eggs off them for OH boss not long ago. They were expensive but I thought they would be top quality.

Hi Megan,
Yes that's the mistake that I made! He told me they are expensive because of the quality of the bird that laid the egg, not that they would be fertile. I am absolutely disgusted with them. If I end up with 3 cockerels from the 3 developing eggs I will be even less amused
Regards,
Lynn

Hi Lynn,
That's awful news....and SO expensive, too. Apart from exceptionally rare breeds I have never heard of anyone charging £5 for a fertile egg. Was postage of £14 charged ? (then they ask £4.99 for return postage for 6 eggs).

I always think that it's best to collect the eggs if at all possible because the postal system damages so many (I have had too many zero hatches in the past). At least with some of my 'duds' I got a total refund....including for the last 6 eggs my daughter bought off eBay.

Though this is not the largest site it may well be a good place to ask around for reputable individuals or breeder who may have eggs available. Some of us may even be able to provide those eggs.

Again, my commiserations.Glad you 'named and shamed' them for us, too.

Sandie

Hi Sandie,
Yes a very expensive mistake to make! Won't do it again though! I am looking for Blue Laced Wyandotte large fowl if anyone knows of a good breeder.
Regards,
Lynn
