Although blood coagulation abnormalities were not the cause of Fatty Liver Haemorrhagic Syndrome (FLHS) in laying hens, some differences were observed in fatty acid profiles between strains and diets, which may translate into cell membrane abnormalities, according to Dr Darren Wood of the University of Guelph in Canada.
Georgia Research Focuses on Feet
Dermatitis in humans can make skin itch and burn. When it hits chickens, it drastically reduces farmers' profits and cuts the supply of an Asian delicacy – chicken feet. Footpad dermatitis also leads to an estimated loss of about $100 million for the Georgia poultry industry each year, according to Allie Bird of the University of Georgia.
