Measuring Hatching Egg Shell Quality
A report into the effects of egg specific gravity and eggshell colour on hatchability by Jon Moyle, Doug Yoho and Keith Bramwell of University of Arkansas. They found that eggs with specific gravity values higher than 1.070 will hatch well, and that only very pale-coloured eggs had reduced hatchability. The article was published in the Winter 2008 issue of the Avian Advice.

AVEC, the Association of Poultry Processors and Poultry Trade in the EU Countries, has published its annual report for 2008, which includes an overview of the projections from various international agencies on the production of poultry meat in the European Union and also projected trade between leading exporting and importing countries.
US Feed Outlook
US feed grain supplies are expected to be up slightly from last month, but they show a fall year on year, according to the USDA Economic Research Service Feed Outlook for January 2009. Production of corn and Sorghum is up, and ever more corn being used to produce ethanol, the report says.
