Welcome to this week's newsletter
Editorial: C$50 Million Boost to Canadian Agribusiness
The Canadian Government has set aside C$50 million to boost the business skills and food safety and environmental awareness of Canada's agricultural community.
The programmes are designed to make the agriculture industry in the country more competitive offering farmers new market place opportunities.
The Governments of Canada and Manitoba are partnering to deliver more than $50 million to enhance agri-business skills, expand food safety measures and enhance environmental action.
In the USA, there are moves from the government to clamp down on the amount of antibiotics that are being used in the production of livestock including poultry.
Joshua Sharfstein, Deputy Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, said antibiotics should only be used in farm animals that are sick, and only under the supervision of a veterinarian.
And now the administration is to restrict their use.
Meanwhile, the US is also explicitly defining what a roasting chicken is. The definition of a roaster that can be put on labels is ready to cook carcase weighing at least 5lbs.
