Editorial: ThePoultrySite Reports from Record Breaking Exhibition in Thailand

VIV Asia 2011 opened this week to welcome thousands of 'Feed to Meat' professionals from Asia and around the world at BITEC in Bangkok, Thailand.

ThePoultrySite editor, Jackie Linden, is on site and reports that the show opened on a high note. Total exhibitors broke a record high with more than 700 exhibitors from 45 countries showcasing the latest livestock technology and business solutions to Asia's fast-growing livestock industries.

At the Opening ceremony of the 10th edition of VIV Asia, Rirksmai Sukhum, president of NCC Exhibition Organizer Co Ltd said in his welcome speech: "One of the most noticeable developments of in the Asian livestock industries over the past two decades has been the rapid industrialisation of livestock production."

In Europe, concern has been raised among farming communities over developments in the European Commission and Mercosur trade talks. There are fears the Commission could make too many concessions.

However the European Parliament fired a warning shot to the negotiators, by passing a resolution that calls on the Commission to stop making concessions that can adversely affect European farmers.

On the health front, more cases of HPAI have been reported in Viet Nam, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Myanmar with the low pathogen form in South Korea. A Newcastle Disease outbreak has been reported in Israel.
