Poultry Meat Exports Rise in Brazil, Poland, Spain

This week, ThePoultrySite reported on rises in poultry meat exports from three countries.

Major global poultry player Brazil reported a 4.1 per cent rise in chicken meat exports in June, contributing to a total rise in exports during the first half of 2016 of 13.86 per cent.

"Again China was one of the highlights of the month, with export volume 72 per cent higher than in June last year,” said Francisco Turra, Chief Executive of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) - click here to read more.

In Poland, there was an increase in export sales of pork, beef and poultry meat in the first three months of this year, according to the state-run Agricultural Market Agency (ARR).

Jaroslaw Adamowski reported that from January to March 2016, the country’s poultry meat exports totalled 221,000 tonnes, an increase of 13 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier - read more.

In Spain, exports of poultry meat went up by 10.37 per cent last year, with 227,335 tons sold.

Nearly 150,000 tons of this was sent to a country of the European Union, reported Spanish news agency Efeagro, with France and Portugal the main destinations - more detail can be found here.

Meanwhile in the UK, agricultural export industry stakeholders discussed the implications of the Brexit vote at the AHDB Meat Export Conference last week.

Jean Pierre Garnier, head of AHDB livestock exports, told the conference that there would be three years of “rough seas and uncertainty” ahead as the UK meat trade faces the challenges of tariff and non-tariff barriers.

However, he said that the UK was well positioned and should have a positive future for exports across the board, both to the EU and outside the EU - read our report here.
