Print This Page Poultry exports seen to grow further in '06
PHILIPPINES - The Philippines is expecting a further rise in its poultry exports this year with Japan as its primary market, the Department of Agriculture said in its report released Friday.New prospective markets include China, Malaysia, Angola, Mozambique, Curacao, Singapore and Europe, the DA report said. Japan used to import 100,000 metric tons of chicken from Thailand before it was hit by bird flu.
DA said the Philippines remains free of bird flu which has wrecked havoc in many countries, especially those in Asia.
Last month, more than 6,000 blood samples and more than 1,800 cloacal swabs the Bureau of Animal Industry collected from native/game fowls, chickens, ducks from 15 regions, 50 provinces, 115 municipalities and 210 barangays were found negative of bird flu virus.
The Philippines has received support from other countries such as Japan and New Zealand private agencies such as Unilab in its campaign against bird flu virus.
