Print This Page Barbados farmers want millions in compensation
BARBADOS - Hit with heavy financial losses caused by nutritional deficiencies last year, the Barbadian poultry industry is now seeking redress. It is putting a proposal to the local feed company in an effort to recover over two million dollars after an outbreak of rickets.
President of the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers Association Carlyle Brathwaite says their losses were directly linked to nutritional deficiencies.
He says tests carried out by local authorities identified differences between the composition of the feed and labelling.
Brathwaite told members of the association today the company has offered assistance to the farmers but working out a formula for compensation has proven difficult.
He says the group will negotiate with the company but if that fails the association may have to consult the fair trading commission.
