Shell Eggs Broken Up 1 Percent

Shell eggs broken totaled 182 million dozen during August 2006, up 1 percent from August a year ago, and 6 percent above the 171 million broken last month.

August 2006 contained 23 weekdays and 4 Saturdays. August 2005 contained 23 weekdays and 4 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2006 through August, shell eggs broken totaled 1.36 billion dozen, down slightly from the comparable period in 2005. Total edible liquid from eggs broken in 2006 was 1.77 billion pounds, down slightly from 2005.
