New chicken factory plan thrown out

UK - Controversial plans to build a poultry farm in Eye were rejected by town councillors on Wednesday. Applicant Godfrey Ford Ltd wants to build the 100m-long free range chicken shed and feed bin on land off Dragon Hill on the B1117.

Town councillors rejected the plans in April and despite alterations, they again recommended the plans for refusal.

David Chapman, a member of the planning working party, said: "Although we agree we have an improved application, we still believe there will be a large visual impact on the town and traffic problems."

Residents living near the site also spoke out against the development.

One resident, who lives 120m from the proposed site, said: "I am very concerned about living so close to a development housing 16,000 chickens. There will be a serious impact on myself and my family because of the flies and the smells."
