Higher feed corn prices had contributed to increased production cost for farmers. Production cost would have risen more significantly had it not been for the weaker prices for day-old chicks in the earlier period.

Farm broiler inventories remained low. As supplies to the market failed to keep up with increased demand for meat in the winter season, prices have thus risen in most regions.

China breed broiler
In Sichuan, a sharp fall in prices in the course of the week prompted farmers to release more supplies. Their actions had dampened prices further towards the end of the past week.

In Guangxi, demand for slow growth (110 days) China breed broilers in the current winter season continued to rise. Insufficient market supply against higher demand had pushed prices up.

Demand for slow growth broiler in Guangdong also increased as consumers continue with the tradition of preparing chicken tonic soup in the winter season. Prices were thus higher with strong demand.

Market forecast

In view of rising demand with the approach of year-end festivities, as well as the colder weather in December and January, broiler prices are seen stable to higher in the near term.
