New aniti-bird flu Campaign to be launched in Thailand
THAILAND - Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is set to upgrade its tough anti-bird flu measures next year to prevent any new bird flu outbreak, a senior official said on Wednesday.Department of Livestock Development director-general Yukol Limlamthong said that major prevention campaigns against the deadly virus nationwide will start again on January 1. As part of the campaign, he said, the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry had assigned local animal husbandry staff to continue surveillance and to undertake public education on the need for bird flu controls.
"Officials are prepared to educate farmers and urge them to report the suspicious deaths of chickens, as well as inspect every area and spray disinfectant to reduce the amount of germs in the environment," Mr. Yukol said.
Besides, he said, a ministry committee is revising and updating existing bird flu prevention measures in order that they will correspond to the changing circumstances, especially in terms of technology applied for bird flu prevention.
