Cameroon: Poultry business bounces back

CAMEROON - Consumers relatively satisfied with prices of chicken as demand heightens.

The stigma tagged on chicken by bird flu is almost completely erased. This is the impression one gets from households today chicken finds its way on the dinning tables. The situation in Yaounde markets tells the story better. And if this could conveniently be extrapolated to the rest of the country, then one can confidently say, poultry business has bounced back.

The president of the Chicken inter-profession association, Ahmadou Moussa readily admits the resumption of activities in the sector in the following words: "the population has resumed consumption of chicken; the psychological effect caused by the bird flu is a thing of the past."

The mad rush for chicken observed in the nation's capital these days have little of nothing to do with end-of-year festivities so to say. The prices remain relatively low.
