Aviagen will acquire the assets of three Agroceres Group companies: Agroceres Ross Melhoramento Genético de Aves S.A., which is currently responsible for the Ross pure line grandparent breeding program and grandparent sales, Agroceres Avicultura e Nutrição Animal Ltda and Agroceres Genética e Nutrição Animal Ltda., that currently distribute Ross parent poultry stock.

Agroceres is a long time partner of Aviagen in the distribution of poultry stock for the Brazilian market. Agroceres other businesses include swine genetics, animal nutrition, ant-bait, cultivated heart of palm and corn and sorghum seed.

The formation of Aviagen do Brasil will further enhance the position of Aviagen in one of the world’s most strategic poultry markets and gives the company opportunities to expand its market share in Latin America.

Aviagen do Brasil plans to invest in technical improvements to its highly bio secure breeding processes and will incorporate Aviagen’s proven selection methods and technology to advance product performance thus providing customers with the highest quality product and service. This new entity will become the third Aviagen grandparent stock supply base, joining other major facilities in the United States and Europe.

“Brazil is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic poultry markets in the world”, adds Bob Dobbie, president of international business for Aviagen. “The excellent operations and facilities of our former joint venture partner will be used to expand our production in Latin America.”

Ivan Pupo Lauandos, current Superintendent Director for Agroceres Ross, will become general director for the Aviagen do Brasil, headquartered in Campinas, Sao Paulo. Farming operations are located in various locations in Sao Paulo State and Uberaba in Minas Gerais State.

“Our customers and our employees will benefit from Aviagen’s investment”, says Lauandos. “Aviagen will bring the best technical personnel in the world to the Brazilian broiler industry to add to the current team.”

Brazilian management, sales and technical teams will continue to serve the needs of the market and to support Aviagen do Brasil customers. The new company’s prime territory will be Brazil and the current export territories, but may expand into other worldwide markets. Brazil is one of the largest poultry production countries in the world and now accounts for more than 30 percent of the world poultry exports.
