Poultry price hike despite flu outbreak

IRELAND - The price of poultry products is set to rise by 15 per cent in the coming weeks, according to the Irish Poultry Processors Association (IPPA).

The price of poultry products is set to rise by 15 per cent in the coming weeks, according to the Irish Poultry Processors Association (IPPA).

Increasing grain prices and rising electricity costs mean producers will push up prices on chicken, turkey and duck products, as well as eggs, according to Michael O’Toole, spokesman for the IPPA.

"The cost of chicken and other poultry products will increase in the next few weeks - by up to 15 per cent - because that is how much the cost of grain feed has increased," O’Toole said.

"The reason for the sharp rise in grain recently is a result of the US retaining a lot more grain for biofuel products".
