Norwegian Poultry Meat Production up 10% in 2006.
NORWAY - Statistics Norway has reported that poultry meat production in the Country totalled 62,518 tonnes carcass weight in 2006, up from 56,472 tonnes in 2005 and 54,236 tonnes in 2004.Chicken accounted for 85 per cent of last year's production, and turkey for 11 per cent.
Østfold County, with 13,703 tons, remained the largest poultry meat producer in Norway last year, followed by Hedmark with 13,206 tonnes and Rogaland with 9,536 tonnes.
Pork production totalled 116,345 tonnes carcass weight in 2006, as against 112,793 tonnes in 2005.
Beef production totalled 32,320 tonnes last year, as compared with 31,390 tonnes in 2005.
Rogaland county, with 60,493 tons, remained the largest meat producer in Norway last year, followed by Nord-Trøndelag with 36,137 tonnes and Hedmark with 33,940 tonnes.
Meat production in Norway has increased by approximately 12 per cent and chicken meat production has increasing by approximately 50 per cent since 2000.
