RUSSIA - In apparent response to questions about the safety of meat imports, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision has announced a partial ban on meat imports from the United States, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Uruguay.Earlier this year, the agency says it detected salmonella in meat products, resulting in the ban of 72.2 tons worth of poultry meat, 23.6 tons of chicken backs, and 481.7 tons of chicken mincemeat from the U.S.
Russia imposed a similar ban on about 40 tons of turkey meat from France; several batches of pork, poultry meat and chicken mincemeat from Germany; chicken parts from Belgium; 24.9 tons of chicken mincemeat from The Netherlands; 23.8 tons of beef trimmings and 25.9 tons of chicken legs from Brazil; and 26.3 tons of beef trimmings from Uruguay.
