Sabah 90pc sufficient in poultry

MALAYSIA - The State Government wants the people to fully use their idle lands for integrated farming.

Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Rahim Ismail said youths and the local community need to know that integrated farming does not need a big land area and that the returns from it can be good.

"Sabah is rich with land and I can see that most of these lands are neglected," he said after visiting three farms located in Menggatal, KKIP and Tuaran, Wednesday.

He asked why, in the first place, these lands are neglected although all know that if they manage these land it would give them good returns.

Towards this end he said the Government would always lend a helping hand to ensure local farmers are successful.

"After visiting these three farms I am very happy that we are on the right path in not only breeding goats, deer and cows but also poultry processing," he said, adding, this shows that with proper guidance and assistance given to local farmers they can achieve good results.

"So instead of letting land go to waste, people should use it by farming or rearing animals such as goat, chicken, deer and others."
