NZFSA Moves To Screen Food Imports From China

NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand Food Safety Authority is moving to screen food imports from China because of a food scare in the United States involving the deaths of pets.

Melamine is used to make plastic kitchen and office furniture. It is added to chicken feed and wheat gluten products in China to mask a lack of protein in the food. It has also been found in Chinese exports of vegetable protein shipped to the United States.
