The government had been pressing them to shift out of the city because their business was polluting the environment and stinking up areas where they were situated.

Units Makhdoom Poultry Protein, Mehar Poultry Waste Processing, Qasim Poultry Protein, Asia Poultry Feed and Idrees Poultry Waste Processing also asked the government to issue them NOCs to import modern machinery to process their products in a way that would not pollute the environment.

Earlier, the district and Punjab environment departments had been serving notice to the owners of the units for violating environmental laws. Residents of nearby housing schemes breathed a sigh of relief when the units were asked to shut down. However, the owners had their units de-sealed after 24 hours of them being sealed and started business again.
