DA Lifts Ban On Imports Of Live Birds From Japan

PHILIPPINES - The government has lifted the ban on the importation of live birds and poultry imports from Japan, following an evaluation made by Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) showing no risk of possible contamination of the dreaded avian influenza.

The lifting of the ban on imported Japanese poultry products was based on the final report by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to the Animal Health Organization showing that 90 days have elapsed without any evidence of highly pathogenic strains of bird flue.

Local importers can now import Japanese domestic and wild birds and their products, including poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs and semen, according to the agriculture department.
