Print This Page Likely Ban On Open Poultry Rearing
MALAYSIA - Villagers and small-time breeders may no longer be allowed to rear chicken in the open to minimise the recurrence of bird flu in the country.Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said such a measure was necessary because the source of bird flu outbreaks in Malaysia was frequently traced to these chicken.
Muhyiddin said the Veterinary Services Department had thus been directed to come up with the proposal, which would then be tabled to the respective mentris besar at a meeting soon.
“The enforcement of such a regulation will require the states’ co-operation,” he added.
