Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said such a measure was necessary because the source of bird flu outbreaks in Malaysia was frequently traced to these chicken.

Muhyiddin said the Veterinary Services Department had thus been directed to come up with the proposal, which would then be tabled to the respective mentris besar at a meeting soon.

“The enforcement of such a regulation will require the states’ co-operation,” he added.
