Print This Page Less wasteful chicken breed
UK - Scientists at the Roslin Institute are to breed chickens that produce less excrement, it was reported today.The £700,000 project will focus on adapting chickens' genes in a bid to cut down on the damage caused by harmful chemicals in the bird's droppings.
The droppings contain nitrogen and phosphorus which help weeds flourish and causes other pollutants.
It is hoped the work will also lead to a reduction in the smell of chicken droppings.
