Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection Goes Public
WASHINGTON - The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today that the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) will hold public meetings August 8-9, 2007, to discuss issues related to handling of data and public health based inspection.
The full committee will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 9. Subcommittees will meet from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8. All committee meetings will be held at George Mason University, School of Public Policy, Arlington Original Building, 3401 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22201. The following issues will be discussed:
- Data Collection and Analysis at FSIS: Standard Operating Procedures;
- Technical Plan for Public Health Based Inspection; and
- Pilot Project to Explore Mechanisms for Sharing Industry Data with FSIS.
The NACMPI was established in 1971 to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture regarding meat and poultry inspection programs. The committee, which generally meets twice a year, addresses food safety and policy issues affecting USDA.
