'Ccpur Poultry Deaths Due To Bacterial Infections`
LAMKA - There is no bird flu as yet in Churachandpur but it is chronic chollibasilosis that is affecting poultry in some villages of Churachandpur like Saikul causing large scale death of the birds, said Dr Saidokhum Joute, the district veterinary officer, DVO, today during an interaction with IFP at his office.

This has been proved by the blood samples of the poultry taken during the departments visit to Saikul village and the tests on which were conducted at the disease investigation laboratary under the directorate of veterinary and animal husbandry at Imphal recently, Joute further said.
The results were sent to the disrict veterinary office on the 27th of this month, he said.
It was confirmed that death of poultry including those of ducks and so on were due largely to bacterial diseases and not avian flu which is currently affecting some other parts of the state.
At present there is no reason to fear eating birds, he said.
He, however, urged the public to inform the district veterinary office in case there is any report of unnatural death of poultry.
He further urged the public to bury immediately any birds, poultry which die randomly so that stray dogs will not eat and carry around the infection, while reiterating that anybody who attempted or intentionally imported infected birds from other places would be treated as public enemy and would be liable for prosecution. For this he urged the cooperation of the public.
