Egg Packer Fined $270K For Faking Organic
AUSTRALIA - The organic sector has welcomed a fine handed down to an egg packer, which substituted organic for conventionally produced eggs.Victorian company G.O. Drew has been fined more than $270,000 in the Federal Court for the substitution, which occurred between 2003 and 2005.
Justice Gray says the Australian Consumer Commission had a difficult case because there is no recognised definition of the term organic.
Most of the fine will be paid to assist in developing national organic labelling standards.
