Shell Eggs Broken Down 3 Percent from Last Year

Shell eggs broken totaled 166 million dozen during July 2007, down 3 percent from July a year ago, and 3 percent below the 171 million broken last month.

July 2007 contained 22 weekdays and 4 Saturdays. July 2006 contained 21 weekdays and 5 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2007 through July, shell eggs broken totaled 1.15 billion dozen, down 3 percent from the comparable period in 2006. To date, cumulative total edible liquid from eggs broken in 2007 was 1.50 billion pounds, down 2 percent from 2006.

Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
