Germans this summer saw the price of milk and bread rise, which the GfK market research institute attributed to higher demand from China as well as an increasing move to use land for the cultivation of alternative fuel products.

EU agriculture commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel has said she expects a massive increase in pork and poultry prices as farmers have to pay more to feed their livestock.
