Print This Page Poultry Producers Taking Risks But Retailers Taking Profits
BARBADOS - Poultry producers in Barbados are calling for a more equitable distribution of profits from the industry.They say while they are taking the risks, supermarkets and retailers are raking in the profits. The situation has been aired by President of the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers, Carlyle Brathwaite in his last address to the organisation's annual general meeting.
Mr. Brathwaite says while growers, processors and other persons in the production sector make a profit of about one dollar and less per bird, the retailers make between five and six dollars per chicken.
