No Cheaper Chicken

BARBADOS - Don't expect chicken prices to drop before the busy Christmas season.

That's the warning from outgoing president of the Barbados Egg and Poultry Producers Association (BEFPA), Carlyle Brathwaite.

He was speaking to the SUNDAY SUN yesterday at the end of the official opening session of the annual general meeting at Sherbourne Conference Centre.

He cited spiralling feed prices due to the high international demand for corn and soya bean; coupled with China's emergence as a major consumer of poultry,
all of which combined
to keep prices up.

Absorb increases

Given this situation, Brathwaite said he asked feed companies to absorb any increases for the time being to shield consumers from a pre-Christmas increase on chicken.
