Savings Coop Invests sh50m In Poultry Project
UGANDA - BORN-Again Pentecostal (BAP), a savings, credit and cooperative society (SACCO), has started a sh50m poultry project aimed at alleviating poverty among members."Instead of giving out loans to individuals who sometimes fail to finance them, we let members under their groups identify projects and BAP funds them," Christopher Mugenyi, the treasurer, said.
Mugenyi said the SACCO’s members, who are in Lubaga Division, would also be beneficiaries of the profits from the poultry business.
The project will also be used as a demonstration farm for members and residents.
Other demonstration farms will be established near churches and mosques around the country to enable people utilise them after prayers.
"Most people spend a lot of time in prayers and forget about work. But these projects will be equipping them with knowledge about poultry and other farming businesses," Mugenyi said.
