OMAN - The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has decided to ban slaughter of live poultry in various wilayats of the Sultanate and instead allowed them to sell only live and chilled poultry. The slaughter of poultry will now be carried out only at the ministry’s licenced slaughter house to meet hygienic conditions.
The decision stems from the ministry’s keenness to improve services to the citizens, maintain public view, ensure protection of consumer’s health and safety and to prevent them against epidemic disease such as the bird flu.
The ministry permitted shops selling live poultry on a one-year notice ending on October 10, 2008, to change their activities to only sale of fresh and chilled poultry.
