Green Eggs, Anyone?

CANADA - Glen Jennings isn’t Dr. Seuss, but he is producing green eggs.

"We’re in a windy situation," the owner of Bayview Poultry Farm Ltd. of Masstown said, explaining why he has installed three wind turbines at his farm on Cobequid Bay.

Mr. Jennings, a fourth-generation farmer, said he hopes that the Skystream 3.7 turbines, installed by Second Source Power Co. of Windsor and connected to Nova Scotia Power’s grid, will make his farm a "net zero" electricity consumer within seven to 10 years.

Net zero, according to Second Source president Mark Richard, is when you produce enough electricity through renewable sources to effectively be consuming zero power from the grid.

"That’s our goal," Mr. Jennings said Tuesday in an interview, adding that he might acquire one or two more turbines, which cost about $23,000 each, depending on his energy requirements. "We plan to collect data over the next year."
