No New Active TB Cases At Decatur Poultry Plant
US - A state Department of Public Health administrator said none of the 165 Wayne Farms poultry workers who tested positive for tuberculosis show signs of active TB.The Decatur plant workers were tested after an ex-employee was hospitalized with highly contagious active TB disease.
"At this time, we have no positives," Judy Smith said. "They tested positive on the skin tests, but all the other tests were negative."
Some test results that take longer to evaluate aren't complete.
All the workers' chest X-rays have been read, and none showed signs of active TB. Out of 212 tested workers at the processing plant, only one showed signs of active TB disease.
Smith said the former employee has left the hospital and is in good condition. She said both of those with active tuberculosis are doing well.
An antibiotic provided to those who tested positive on skin tests eliminates the infection after a treatment lasting six to nine months, she said.
