Poultry Farmers On A Roll
INDIA - Winter generally increases the gap between demand and supply of eggs, more so in Northern India. And the poultry farmer in Hyderabad now sports a snug smile with egg production reaching its crescendo this year. |

The layer poultry farm owners have every reason to smile as they are now able to meet the demand for egg export to other States with the industry stabilising itself, after the doldrums it suffered last year. Andhra Pradesh farmers are now exporting as many as 2.5 crore eggs a day to other States, mostly in North India, while the total production of eggs is around 5.5 crore in a day.
Demand for eggs
The winter demand for eggs is such that Delhi which consumes around 25 lakh eggs a day now needs about 75 lakh eggs.
Pune, another major consumer of eggs now imports about two lakh eggs from Hyderabad alone, industry sources say.
The phenomenal increase in egg consumption coupled with the shortage in production in North India has now come as a boon for Andhra Pradesh, particularly for the poultry farmers in and around Hyderabad.
