Income Benefit from Community-Agri Project

QUIRIMO - The Provincial Government has launched the Community-Based Industry Development (CBID), an agri-based project aimed at providing additional income to the people of the Quirino.

The CBID has components such as establishment of feedmill, swine, poultry, aquaculture and goat production livelihood projects.

The feedmill which was established at the Villa Norte Farmers Cooperative in Maddela aims to produce quality and affordable feeds for hog, fish and poultry.

To support the feed processing project, the provincial government thru the Office of the Provincial Agriculture will initiate the production of corn, rice and cassava which will serve as raw materials.

The swine, poultry and goat production are livelihood programs of the Provincial Government aimed at providing soft loans to low-income families. Qualified farmers can apply at the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

For tilapia production, a build-operate-transfer scheme for fishponds will be offered to qualified farmers. The provincial government will construct the ponds, provide the tilapia fingerlings and feeds. As soon as the cost shall be recovered by the government, the fishpond will be turned over to the land owner.

Some of the beneficiaries of the project are the families with underweight children identified in the latest report of the Provincial Nutrition Committee, who can afford to pay the loans offered by the provincial government.

The Agri-based Industry Development Advisory Council (AIDAC), said one of the considerations for choosing the beneficiaries was their ability to have income to meet their obligation in order to sustain the program and eliminate the dole out mentality of the people.

Provincial Planning and Development Officer Dennis Pagbilao said the families who can not afford to pay loans can avail of the poverty alleviation and hunger mitigation programs under the Provincial Social Welfare Office (PSWDO).

The AIDAC is optimistic that the beneficiaries would be able to increase their income and boost their business potential.
