GUWAHATI – The All Assam Poultry Farmers’ Association (AAPFA) has called on the State Government to help quash unfounded fears regarding bird flu.According to reports in the Assam Tribune, the AAPFA said more than 50,000 poultry farms in the State are facing huge financial loss because of the Government ban.
"As the Government has banned the entry of poultry and poultry products from West Bengal and so far no unusual death of chickens has been reported in the State, we do not think there is any harm in the consumption of local poultry products," Rajib Sarmah, general secretary, AAPFA told the Tribune, shortly before the authorities in Neighbouring West Bengal lifted the ban on poultry and egg sales.
"The ban has resulted over 70 per cent downfall in poultry sales in the markets," he added.
