Poultry Farmers Seek Help

According to reports in the Times Jornal, several farmers have asked the DeKalb County Commission to back them in a bid to convince the state to install natural gas lines in DeKalb County.

And one commissioner, Dewitt Jackson, who has six chicken houses in the Sylvania area of DeKalb, said he could understand the farmers plight.

“In order to run a chicken house, natural gas is needed but then again the cost to put a natural gas line is also very expensive,” Mr Jackson told the Times Journal.

“If the cost doesn’t go down, let’s face, it could have a tremendous effect on the farmers.”

Wayne Williams, a poultry farmer in the Ider area, said the situation is getting more and more troubling.
