Poultry Import to Resume Soon
INDIA - In what could bring in some good news for the languishing poultry industry in the State, the ban on poultry import in Assam is likely to be lifted in the next few weeks. The decision on the ban would be reviewed at a high-level meeting tomorrow.Sources in the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department told The Assam Tribune that the officials of the department along with the officials of a host of related departments would meet to review the ban order tomorrow.
The Additional Chief Secretary, meanwhile, has also confirmed about his participation in the meeting.
The State, it may be mentioned, had taken up preventive culling in the bordering districts with West Bengal as preventive measure after the outbreak of the deadly disease was confirmed in the neighbouring State.
“The decision whether to lift the ban or not will be taken tomorrow,” the sources said, adding that the areas where preventive culling was taken up would be monitored for 20-30 days.
