Pakistan Lifts Ban on Poultry Import
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Thursday lifted ban on the import of poultry hydrolyzed protein, raw materials from poultry slaughter and flavoring substances for pet food from BSE (Mad Cow disease) infected countries like United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Falkland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Spain and Alberta Region of Canada, reports Sajid Chaudhry.Ministry of Commerce while notifying amendments in Import Policy Order 2007 for lifting of ban on aforesaid items import has announced that “ this ban shall also not apply on import of poultry origin hydrolyzed protein (protein meal), blood meal, poultry fat, poultry liver meal, meat and bone meals (raw material originating 100 percent from by-products from poultry slaughter), egg powder and flavoring substances for pet food and fish feed industry from the aforesaid BSE infected countries.”
Import Policy Order 2007 had imposed ban on the import of live animals like cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats, meat and bone meal, tallow containing protein and feed ingredients from BSE infected countries, such as U.K, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Falkland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Spain and Alberta Region of Canada, shall not be allowed till further orders.
The import of meat and meat products from other parts of Canada shall however be allowed subject to certifying additional animal quarantine requirements.
