The more than 2,000 livestock farmers in the country are pleading with the government to remove the ceiling price on chicken, reports the NSTOnline.
They say that close to 100 members of the Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Association (FLFAM) turned up at a press conference at the Holiday Villa here yesterday to voice their grievances.
FLFAM broiler unit chairman Kwei Yew Tong said the steep increases in the cost of production had put the poultry industry in serious economic stress.
Kwei said the association had appealed to the government several times to remove the ceiling price or to adjust it but their pleas had been ignored.
“The removal of the ceiling price ensures the viability and the sustainability of the local poultry industry in the interest of food security,” he said.
