Livestock Pushing Pakistan's Economic Growth
PAKISTAN - The livestock sector in Pakistan has recently been praised for its importance by the former federal finance minister Sartaj Aziz. He described what a key role it is playing in the country's growth, contributing over 50 per cent to agriculture GDP, and over 11 per cent to the national GDP.
He was addressing a function held for the first batch of MBA Life Sciences of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, reported the Pakistan Observer earlier today. The news agency said that VC Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, deans of faculties, directors, faculty members and a select number of businessmen were also present.
According to a press release here Tuesday, the former minister said that improvement in education and research in livestock meant improvement in the overall economy of the country. He lauded the efforts of the UVAS in initiating demand- driven academic and research programme in health and nutrition, in addition to livestock, poultry, fisheries and wildlife.
Aziz especially appreciated the initiation of the MBA Life Sciences degree program, and said that the MBA graduates will definitely contribute to the development of this sector and the overall national economy. The VC gave a presentation on the history, academic, research and developmental programs of the university. He said that UVAS is working for shift in paradigm through modern and practical academic and research programs at the graduate and postgraduate level to enhance human resource development.
