It is expected that a further six people are will be arrested in an ongoing federal investigation, according to the The Charlotte Observer.

Immigration officials made the arrests after finding what appeared to be false information on employment records kept at the company's chicken processing plant in Greenville, South Carolina, according to Kevin McDonald, the state's first assistant US attorney.

"It's an ongoing investigation – one that [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and our office have been working on for a number of months," Mr McDonald said.
