Boost for Poultry Farming

NIGERIA - Poultry farmers in Borno state have been asked to liaise with the directorate of veterinary services of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources for professional advice on avian flu.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Aliyu B. Chiroma, made the call when the members of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and National Avian Influenza Control Project paid him a courtesy call in his office on Monday, reports Leadership Nigeria.

Mr Chiroma commented out that the state government had procured adequate vaccines for effective control of livestock and bird diseases in the state.

He added that the government was making every effort to ensure a healthy bird population throughout the state and encouraged measures to improve the welfare of their birds.

Speaking on the mission of the members, he commended the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Avian Influenza project for compensating the seven affected farms in the state.

The National Coordinator of Avian Influenza Project in Abuja was represented by Adeya Adeniyi who stated that the team was present in the state to compensate the seven poultry farms affected.
