Kuwait Curbs Poultry Prices and Bans Exports
KUWAIT - Ministry has called for a maximum limit for the price of chicken and export ban to help tackle record inflation.Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has ordered poultry companies "To provide the market with big quantities and be ready to set a maximum ceiling for prices," according to Arab Times.
The Arab Times picked up a report from Arabic-language daily Al-Watan. It said ministry officials had met with companies selling fresh and frozen chicken to discuss reasons behind price rises.
The Kuwaiti government is under pressure from parliament to tackle rising prices.
In the same article, Arab Times reports that on 8 July, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced a ban on exports of live and slaughtered sheep and frozen chicken.
Mohamed Al-Enzi, chief of the ministry supply department, said that the ban will be effective from August and will remain in place until further notice. Its aim is to meet the needs of the local market and limit food price inflation in the local market, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
