Print This Page Extension to Use of Synthetic Methionine for Organic Poultry
US - It has been proposed that synthetic methionine may continue to be included in feeds for organic poultry.
Agricultural Marketing Service has proposed a rule in the latest Federal Register (14 July) to amend the US Department of Agriculture's National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances ('National List').
The proposal extends the use of synthetic methionine in feeds for organic poultry until 1 October 2010.
DL-methionine, DL-methionine hydroxy analogue and DL-methionine hydroxy analogue calcium were included on the National List in 2003 and had been scheduled to expire in October 2008.
Comments on the proposal must be received by 13 August 2008.
