The authorities in Togo issued an 'Immediate Notification' report about one outbreak at Agbata-Dague in the Maritime Region in the far south of the country. The outbreak first started on 9 September in an area with an estimated poultry population of 35,000 poultry of all species. A flock of 6,500 mixed poultry was involved, of which, 4131 birds died from what was later confirmed to be the H5N1 sub-type of the HPAI virus. The remaining 2369 birds were destroyed. The last outbreak of H5N1 in the country was in the same region in December 2007.

A 'Final Report' from the UK was received by OIE on 20 September. It related to two outbreaks of H5N1 in wild birds near Abbotsbury in the country of Dorset in south-west England, starting at the end of December 2007. With no further outbreaks in the meantime, this event is described as 'resolved' and no further reports will be submitted.

The UK authorities have also submitted a 'Final Report' to OIE regarding the outbreak of H7N7 HPAI at Shenington in Oxfordshire in May 2008. Of the flock of 25,000 laying hens, 10,000 died and the remaining birds were destroyed. Again, the infection did not spread to neighbouring farms, and surveillance of the local wild bird population indicates that the outbreak has been resolved.
